Literature I Like

While I’m not going to post my whole biography here, I’ll give you a fair low-down on various things in lists, because I’m actually lazy.

Favourite Writers (curse my lack of fellow female writers, but that’ll change, I promise!):

  • Stephen King
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • T.S. Eliot
  • Ezra Pound
  • Jean-Paul Sartre
  • Virginia Woolf
  • Edgar Allan Poe
  • Oscar Wilde
  • Edwidge Danticat
  • J.K. Rowling
  • John Keats
  • Haruki Murakami
  • Ian McEwan

Some writings I adore in no particular order (some by authors not mentioned in my faves):

  • The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald)
  • Night Shift (King)
  • Breath, Eyes, Memory (Danticat)
  • The Tell-tale Heart (Poe)
  • Persuasion (Austen)
  • The Harry Potter Series (Rowling)
  • The Hobbit (Tolkien)
  • The Kite Runner (Hosseini)
  • Norwegian Wood (Murakami)
  • The Waste Land (Eliot) (p.s. I also lost my copy of Eliot’s selected poetry, and I’m kicking myself for it)
  • One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Kesey)
  • Solid Geometry (McEwan)
  • A Song of Ice and Fire series (Martin)

Books I really want to read (but am kind of reluctant to, and I’ll add more to this list in the future):

  • Ulysses (Joyce)

Texts that I’m on the fence with (I’ll go into detail about why in upcoming posts):

  • The Catcher in the Rye (Salinger)
  • Milk and Honey (Kaur)

Works I think are overrated, or simply roll my eyes at, but don’t really hate (OMG I’m a traitor! Sue me!):

Books I absolutely have a hatred for:

  • Now how can I truly hate books?  Some have made me completely outraged, like the ones mentioned above.  I mean, I’ve said that I hated them because I’m not a fan of them, yet I read them anyway (some I had to for study, others I read just to be on board the hype train),  or because I still harboured feelings that the book gave me.

Genres I read/write/watch:

  • History (particularly the 20th century)
  • Suspense/thriller
  • Macabre
  • Fantasy
  • Realism

Anyway, that went longer than expected.  Congratulations on reading this far!  I guess that’s all for now, and I’ll see you around!
